Isa 65:1 I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. 2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts.
יהוה is pursuing His people, despite their rebellion, Isaiah’s juxtaposing the contrast between divine patience and human stubbornness. Isaiah witnesses a deep gulf between יהוה’s extended hand of grace and Israel’s continuous rebellion.
Isa 65:1 I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. 2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts; ***3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick; 4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
YHWH’s desire to be found is amazing, and His openness to those of us who were outside the covenant community of Israel is truly humbling…
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Moshiach, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without Elohim in the world:
יהוהs presence then…quenches a spiritual thirst even in those of us who were unaware of their need! Matt 5:6, Jn 6:35.
***Rom 10:20 But Isaiah is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
Deut 32:21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not Elohim; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
1 Peter 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of Elohim: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
It’s seen so clearly in Romans 10:21, where Shaul shows that Israel rejected Yahusha despite יהוה’s persistent outreach. Just like Yahusha lamented over Jerusalem, in Lk 13:34 saying, How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!
Rebelliousness in the face of יהוהs continuous invitations for repentance is the theme!
The Hebrew word for “thoughts” (מַחְשָׁבוֹת machshavot) comes from the root חָשַׁב (chashav), meaning “to think” or “to plan.” ח (chet, fence) and ש (shin, teeth) show that barriers created by false or harmful thinking – stinking thinking, separate people from יהוהs narrow path that leads to life.
A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face…
Halloween, Christmas, Easter are all non-sanctioned altars – pagan worship practices in direct violation of the covenant. Regardless of what your Pastor says יהוהs anger is provoked by this blatant idolatry!
Romans 1:25 – humanity exchanged the truth of יהוה for a lie and worshiped created things rather than the Creator. This idolatry is central to the human rebellion against יהוה.
It shows how this kind of sin binds people – it binds their generations, distancing them and their families from the holiness of יהוה and trapping them generationally in the pagan cult.
4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels; 5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.
Wake up call – this verse demonstrates that consuming swine’s flesh is akin to necromancy – willfully engaging in acts condemned by the Torah. These actions bring about defilement, just as sitting among graves rendered someone unclean according to the BoL (Numbers 19:11-13). What we have here is a people’s flagrant disregard for יהוהs commandments.
In the BRIT, the story of the Gadarene demon-iac (Mark 5:1-20) occurs in a region where pigs were raised…meaning there’s a link between impurity and demonic influence. Yahusha casts out the demons into the swine, showing His power over uncleanness and evil.
The main problem with the Church is false holiness and spiritual pride. Just like verse 5:
“Who say, ‘Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am holier than you!’ These are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all the day.”
Spiritual arrogance, where people claim a false sense of holiness whilst simultaneously engaging in sinful behavior.
The stink of self-righteousness, whilst distancing themselves from others, whilst engaging in practices that יהוה abhors. Their hypocrisy is so offensive to יהוה that it makes those of us read in the Word head’s spin!
Yahusha confronted this same spiritual pride in the Pharisees, who believed they were holier than others while neglecting the weightier matters of the TORAH, such as justice and mercy (Matthew 23:23).
Smoke in יהוהs nostrils speaks to the offensiveness of hypocrisy, just like Yahusha’s condemnation of the religious leaders who honored יהוה with their lips but whose hearts were far from Him (Matthew 15:8-9).
6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, 7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the יהוה, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.
V.6 “Recompense into their bosom/Pay back into their laps” this means personal responsibility and the consequences that flow from constant disobedience.
8 Thus saith the יהוה, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all. 9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. 10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.
Even in judgment, a remnant will be preserved. The image of the cluster of grapes with juice remaining shows that there’s still life and blessing within Israel, and יהוה won’t completely destroy His people. A remnant from Judah and Jacob will inherit the promises of יהוה like I said at Sukkot.
And we know that that remnant are sealed by יהוה and inherit the promises of the New Jerusalem.
The Valley of Achor (trouble) becoming a resting place (Isaiah 65:10) shows how the reversal of curses and the transformation of hardship into blessing. It’s mirrored in Hosea 2:15, where יהוה promises to turn the Valley of Achor into a door of hope. Yahusha IS this transformative hope, the one who promises rest for the weary and burdened (Matthew 11:28-30).
Isa 65:11 But ye are they that forsake the יהוה, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for Gad, and that furnish the drink offering unto Meni.
Worshipping Fortune (Gad) and Destiny (Meni). Gimmel Dalet, there is no vowel pointing in the Hebrew within the Torah – this word is GOD, GOD is the elohim of fortune. The Lord God -Josh 11:17, 12:7, 13:5. Baal Gd.
The church has chosen idols, the Lord of fortune over יהוה. Colossians 3:5 warns believers to “put to death…whatever belongs to your earthly nature…and greed, which is idolatry.” Worshiping false god’s (whether literal idols or modern substitutes like wealth and fortune) leads to spiritual death.
12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not. 13 Therefore thus saith the יהוה Elohim, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: 14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit. 15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the יהוה Elohim shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name: 16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the Elohim of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the Elohim of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.
17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. 20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. 21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the יהוה, and their offspring with them. 24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the יהוה.
The new Jerusalem is the city of יהוה’s presence, where joy, peace, and righteousness reign. The imagery of long life and prosperity (Isaiah 65:20-23) symbolizes the restoration and return to Eden, where humanity once again lives in harmony with their Creator. Yahusha is the means by which this new creation is brought about, with the “new Jerusalem” descending from heaven (Revelation 21:2).
Isaiah 65 – divine judgment and renewal. יהוה’s justice requires recompense for sin, but His mercy ensures a remnant will remain. Ultimately, He promises a new creation, one in which death, suffering, and toil are no more, and harmony between creation and Creator is fully restored – the ultimate redemption that transcends time and reaches its fulfillment in Messiah Yahusha!
